We have all heard Christmas songs like “Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” But these are some of the worst Christmas Carols to ever enter your ears. Do you dare to listen?
5: Happy Xmas (the war is over)
This song was made in 1972 and was later turned into a movie. Though the original meaning of the song forces us to think about those who lived in fear during the Vietnam War, this topic infused into a Christmas song was, in my opinion, not the greatest idea of all time. But I do think its original purpose was beautiful.
4:The Christmas Shoes
This carol is about a son trying to buy shoes for his mom to make her beautiful. Though the thought is very sweet, the hook itself is in no way jolly and merry. Essentially, it does not set a very happy tone, which is not ideal during the holiday season.
3: Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer
The story in the song starts out with the grandma who is drunk on eggnog and goes outside. In the morning the family finds her dead with reindeer hoof marks on her forehead. The family mourns for their grandma, and the song goes on. The worst part is that the tune is way too upbeat for the topic.
2: Nuttin’ For Christmas
This song just lists a young boy’s shenanigans as he explains why he will get nothing for Christmas. Though you might not remember the lyrics of this song, you will remember the voice and tune, as the song is sung in the most annoying voice possible, and it is way too fast. What was supposed to be a message warning to children to behave, just became an annoying carol.
1: Dominic the Donkey
At a first glance at the lyrics, you might think this song is a cute little kid’s Christmas song. But do not be mistaken, this is the most horrific carol of them all. The carol constantly repeats “La-la-la” and “Hee-haw”, and the repetition can get stuck in your head 100 times whenever you are studying for that test before winter break. And that’s not a good thing. So listen if you dare!
