Not going anywhere over winter break? Here are ten fun activities to keep you feeling festive and entertained while away from school.

1. Go Ice Skating

Whether you’re an accomplished hockey player or figure skater, or even if you have never touched a pair of ice skates, ice skating is a great activity to try out this winter. If you want to skate locally try going to Gallo Ice Arena in Bourne. You could even take a trip and visit The Rink at 401 Park in Boston. All you need to do is show up and you can rent ice skates at either place! You can go alone or bring friends and loved ones to skate with. It’s a perfect opportunity to create long-lasting memories during this holiday season.

2. Bake Holiday Cookies or Decorate Gingerbread Houses

Wanting to make an edible treat that is sure to make more than just Santa jolly? Bake some holiday cookies or gingerbread houses! Not only are they fun to make, they taste amazing! You can either make them for yourself or spread some holiday cheer by gifting them to someone.

3. Go Christmas Tree Shopping

If you celebrate Christmas and you like to decorate your tree during the holiday season, going shopping for real trees is a great way to get in the festive mood. Even if you don’t buy a tree, just going to a Christmas tree farm lends an opportunity for taking Instagram-worthy pictures. One Christmas tree farm to visit is Mistletoe Acres Tree Farm in East Bridgewater.

4. Make Hot Chocolate

Coming inside from the cold outdoors? One of the best ways to warm up is with a nice mug of hot cocoa. Not only is hot chocolate warm, it tastes amazing too! Hot chocolate is an easy and quick recipe. All you need to do is warm some milk or water and add cocoa mix. If you want, you can get fancy with additions like marshmallows and whip cream.

5. Watch Holiday Movies

If the weather is unpleasant or you just like staying indoors, getting cozy watching holiday movies is a great festive activity. All you need is a blanket, a screen to watch on, and a movie. Whether you like old animated movies or more realistic stories, there are holiday movies that will fill your preferences! Some of my favorites are, Elf, Frosty the Snowman, and The Princess Switch

6. Read A Book

Never get the chance to read what you like during school? Winter break is the perfect time to start a new book! Books are a great way to learn new things and escape reality for a little while. If you have some free time this winter break, try finding a good book and a cozy blanket. Sit back, relax, and let yourself enjoy reading a story.

7. Make A Christmas Music Playlist

One of my favorite things about the holiday season is the music. Holiday music just has a certain vibe that can’t be found anywhere else. If you find yourself having spare time over the break, you could take a few minutes to create a unique holiday playlist for yourself or your family. One of my favorite parts about holiday music is the diversity of it; no matter what style of music you like there is something for everyone.

8. Sing Holiday Carols

As Buddy the elf says, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” Singing holiday songs is sure to raise anyone’s mood. You can sing in front of family or friends. You can even have a mini-concert by yourself in your room, it’s all up to you! A few of my favorite holiday songs to sing are Santa Tell Me and Last Christmas.

9. Wrap and Give Gifts to People

One of my favorite parts about the holiday season is wrapping and giving presents to people. It’s really fun to try to think of the perfect gift for someone and see their reaction when receiving the gift. The best thing about gifts is that sometimes the most special ones aren’t expensive or fancy but homemade. If you get a chance, over the break, make or get a gift for someone special in your life. Afterward, if you want, you can wrap the present in nice wrapping paper and see the magic of gift-giving come to life!

10. Give Back To Those In Need

The holidays are a great time to take a moment to give back to your community and those less fortunate than you. There are many ways to give back and help others. Whether you donate time, food, clothes, or other things, everything makes a difference. One local place that you can donate to is the Falmouth Service Center. So, please take a moment over break and give back to people in the community.
